Team Themis Welcomes Public to New Web Site
Millbrae, CA - July 26, 1998 - Welcome to the Team Themis website for the 1999 FIRST National Robotics Competition. FIRST, the non-profit organization that hosts the competition every year to which teams from all around The United States and Canada come to compete. Although the objective of the competition changes every year, the ultimate vision does not. FIRST is dedicated to providing an opportunity to enrich and inspire students and engineers to come together to promote engineering and science through this competition. High schools and their corporate sponsors team up to design, construct, and test a robot built out of raw and bought materials to compete against each other. Ultimately, only one will win. Through this process, FIRST and the teams hope to introduce students to the world of science, engineering, and technology and maybe persuade them to further explore this field in college and as a career.
Team Themis, a group of students from Mills High School, entered the competition last year in 1998. Located in Millbrae, California near the San Francisco Airport, we've come together as a unified team with one goal in mind; get the community, school, and students excited about robotics and engineering in general. In the process, we'll develop crucial skills necessary to succeed in the field, and have fun in the process.
An endeavor such as this does not come cheap or easily. Students spent weeks and months preparing for this competition, well ahead of time to raise the necessary funds (in the thousands) and skills. We hope that you'll enjoy looking through this web site and gain an understanding for what we are trying to do. Remember that we can use everybody's support regardless of size or form.
